Mastiffs - Care
Purebred Mastiffs are very expensive. They are able to deliver pups only by Caesarian and have to be artificially inseminated. So only reputable breeders can provide you with a real Mastiff and it cannot be at a bargain price.
Adult Mastiffs don't require a lot of exercise. They walk by themselves around the house or yard. But be careful - Mastiffs can knock things down if there's not enough room for them. Mastiffs enjoy outdoors all year round. They tolerate low temperatures if provided with a shelter. But being a short-nosed breed, Mastiffs suffer from heat and humidity and can even die. They should be provided with shade and plenty of fresh cool water. In extremely hot weather it's better to move them into the basement.
Mastiffs - Training
As natural guard dogs Mastiffs will be protective even with extensive socialization. Protection training is unnecessary, but obedience training is recommended. The owners should be consistent and shouldn't repeat commands if the dog doesn't obey. Mastiffs are not the dogs for beginners. Only with a calm, dominant and experienced master can the Mastiff make a good family companion.
Mastiffs - Health
Mastiffs are subject to hip dysplasia, pano-ostiosis (may occur in puppyhood and disappears on its own), "cherry eye"(eye inflammation, which is cured by minor surgery). Young Mastiffs should by no means run and play too much. Mastiffs - Breeders Links
